Community building in unexpected places

Sometimes RPCM's work takes place at the 40 Oak building, but much of our work is out in the community in unexpected corners of the city. Recently we hosted a BBQ at a local rooming house, inviting tenants into their unused shared backyard, to encourage connection, resource sharing, and community. They chose the menu, and we listened to tunes together in the sunshine and foraged new friendships. A great way to spend an afternoon, and with excellent company!

One resident said ‘I have lived here for 6 years, and I have never been in the backyard. It’s nice to be reminded that this space is mine, too’.

Sometimes we all need a little help remembering that we ALL are worthy of taking up space!
